Some nights are meant to be wine nights. In Paris, this seems to be our attitude most of the time. I love stumbling across wine bars where you can sit down (or stand), sip on reasonably priced bottles of wine and order a plate of quality cheese and charcuterie.
A recent bar à vins that I’ve found is Au Père Louis, located in between Odèon and le Jardin du Luxembourg in the 6th. It’s actually a restaurant, but upon entering you’ll find a spacious area full of barrel-shaped tables and stools, packed with fellow wine drinkers as well as guests waiting to be seated. I haven’t actually dined there yet, but from what I’ve seen, the atmosphere is lively, diners looks happy and the food looks delicious.
Au Père Louis is swarmed with locals, exuding a très francais ambiance but remains friendly to foreigners so be sure to stop in for a quick drink, a nibble or a few hours of wine night debauchery. Get there before 7:30 p.m. and you can even score happy hour prices on wine! Santé!
